This trip is designed to give educators, responsible for teaching students from Guatemala and Latin America, the opportunity to:
● Experience the culture
● Understand the barriers to education that these students face
● Have a first hand encounter in the the region of Guatemala where many of the students in Cincinnati come from.

The trip has a total cost of $1,877.00 if you are traveling with the group, and $900 if you are getting your own flight.
*If you are purchasing your own Airfare you need to be in Guatemala before 7:30 PM on Saturday March 26, and depart guatemala after 1:00 PM on Saturday April 2.

Arrive Guatemala on Saturday March 26
Travel to Quetzaltenango and stay in a Hotel for 4 nights
During this time we will hear from Local Officials, Teachers, Social Workers
We will take field trips to villages, schools, homes and landmarks
Depart to Antigua Guatemala on Friday and stay at a Hotel for ONE nights
Learn about Guatemalan History by spending a structured day in once the third most important Spanish colony in the Americas, Antigua Guatemala

Pack Appropriately, Guatemala is the Land of eternal spring, and that means that we get to enjoy weather like a typical spring day in Cincinnati

Background and Additional Information:
There are 60,000 Hispanics in the southwest region of Ohio. 68% of this population is from Mexico and Guatemala. Cincinnati Public Schools serves 35,000 Students. 3,000 of these students are ELL Students. Out of those 3,000 a large percent of them come from the northern part of Guatemala and southern part of Mexico. Having an understanding of the culture, family dynamics, social and emotional barriers and experiencing where these families come from, will help educators develop better teaching techniques.
We will be visiting the northern region of Guatemala. We will travel through Quetzaltenango and San Marcos. Our accommodations will be in a hotel setting, with double occupancy rooms. Transportation will be in the form of Minivan or Local Bus. Workshops and Presentations will be provided by Government officials, teachers, community leaders and local families. Site visits will include trips to villages, rural schools, churches, homes, government buildings and natural landmarks. We will also have the opportunity to eat at local restaurants, shop in the markets, visit Antigua Guatemala and tour certain parts of the region. We will fly into La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City and travel to Quetzaltenango. We will stay in Quetzaltenango between Sunday and Thursday. We will travel to Antigua on Thursday afternoon and Spend a day in Antigua Guatemala. We leave Guatemala on Saturday August 2nd.
